What should I do if my car is vandalized?

When we park on the street or in a parking lot, we don't always think about our car's vulnerability to theft or vandalism. While we hope you don't ever come back to find your car vandalized, Esurance is always here to help you file your auto insurance claim should the need arise.

If you discover that your car has been vandalized, notify the police immediately, so they can issue a police report documenting the damage. This also helps local authorities keep track of vandalism in a given area, which helps them do more to protect you and your community in the future. Try to identify any possible witnesses there at the scene and provide their information to the police. This information will assist in the investigation of the vandalism.

With any act of vandalism, it's important to remember to leave your car the way you found it until the police and/or our appraiser have the opportunity to inspect it. You'll want them to see exactly how much damage was done so you can make an accurate auto insurance claim.

It's always a good idea to document vehicle damage. If you have a camera with you when you discover the vandalism, take photos of the damage.
