Esurance and The Park People Help Denver See Green
DENVER, CO
– September 22, 2008 – In a coordinated effort to improve Denver's urban
forest, The Park People has teamed up with Esurance, the online auto insurance
company, to plant up to 500 trees along Denver streets. The project, Northeast Denver's Big Dig, will take place on Saturday, October 25
from 9 a.m.- Noon.
Volunteers will plant 200 trees throughout North Monaco
Street Parkway, 100 along Martin
Luther King Boulevard, and up to 200 on other
underserved Denver
streets. The trees planted on this date will go toward Mayor Hickenlooper's Tree
by Tree – The Mile High Million program, a mandate initiated by the mayor in
his 2006 state of the union speech to add 1 million new trees to the Denver
metropolitan area by 2025.
"The target
areas were carefully chosen based on low tree canopy coverage. We are excited about this project, because we
are able to enhance Denver's
environment while adding beauty and vibrance to some of our most historic
neighborhoods," says Paige Heydon-McCrary, Executive Director of The Park
People. "Planting trees is an important
and proven way to ensure our neighborhoods are strong and healthy, and we're
proud to be part of this important effort."
"As a
company with roots in the Denver area, we could not be happier that our ongoing
partnership with The Park People accomplishes our dual goals of beautifying
neighborhoods and growing community through volunteer projects that enlarge
Denver's tree canopy," said Kristin Brewe, Esurance Director of Brand and
Public Relations.
Earlier in
October, The Park People and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado will plant 62
trees in City Park as part of Saturday @ the Park's Community Forester Project. These trees will
become part of a new arboretum in City
Park designed to enhance Denver's landscape, while
offering the community a place to enjoy the natural beauty of our city. Volunteers will be planting trees in City Park
on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.
