FAQ: Auto Insurance Rates Explained

Does my driving record affect my auto insurance rates?

Typically, if you have violations on your record, you can expect your auto insurance rates to go up. It generally takes 3 years for auto insurance rates to go back down after a violation. However, this time frame can be longer for more severe incidents. Whether or not you were found at-fault in an accident will also have a large impact on your insurance rates.

There are exceptions to this rule, however. For example, if you attend traffic school, the violation will be removed from your record. Some traffic schools are even offered online for your convenience.

Drivers with clean driving records, on the other hand, can expect lower auto insurance rates, and in many states can also receive a Good Driver discount. If you’re eligible for this discount, it will automatically be applied to your quote.

Safe driving can save you money on your auto insurance rates, but more importantly it can save lives. Whether your driving record is spotless, or dotted with a few bumps in the road, it never hurts to brush up on your driving skills. Even if your driving record isn’t squeaky clean, you could still get great rates from Esurance. In fact, Esurance offers several different discounts that you may qualify for. Although we hope safety is your number one priority when you’re driving, the Good Driver discount is just one more incentive to slow down, be aware, and drive with care.
